Alessandro Rubinelli founded the company in Chicago in 1921 to supply the local Italian immigrant population with the food of their homeland. His son Mario took over the business in 1945 after serving in WW II and getting his college degree from the University of Notre Dame. Under his leadership the company expanded in the local supermarkets where other Americans could discover and enjoy the Italian products that Rubinelli, Inc. imported and developed over the years. By this time Rubinelli, Inc. had developed d a reputation for outstanding quality, authenticity, integrity and service. By the time he passed away after leading the company for over 40 years, he had become a legend for his marketing, intergrity and generosity. He helped many small retailers get their start.

His son Robert succeeded him after graduating Notre Dame University and serving 4 years in the US army. While working at the company he earned his MBA graduate degree at night school from the University of Illinois. The early 1980’s was an exciting time for Italian food products. Rubinelli, Inc. was the first in the Midwest to introduce extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and many other Italian classics to the American consumer.

Today our company supplies independent supermarkets, specialty stores and supermarket chains throughout the Midwest. Robert Mario, the fourth generation Rubinelli, is currently gaining experience in all facets of the company to continue the legacy of quality, authenticity and integrity. We could not have come this far without the loyalty of our customers, Dell’Alpe consumers, and a great group of dedicated employees.
