Problem company with Government backing to conduct unethical actions
I found AT&T to be the worst Communications Company ever. When I paid my bill, with a Certified Check to keep there billing department from screwing up my personal checking account, they deposited it and then tried to claim lack of payment. The bill was for less than $30. Their actions for the "lack of payment" were enacted in less than 3 weeks from when the bill was due, and the Certified Check had been already deposited by them, days before due date. I was Active Duty Military at the time, during the worst of the GWOT, and yet AT&T 'collections' hounded my high-risk, pregnant wife over the "type of people who don't pay their bills", for weeks, 3-9 times per day. Jeb Bush was Governor of Florida and his brother, W., was President: both of their offices stated that AT&T, under the "Patriot Act", had 'special' standing that precluded AT&T from being held to standards of Consumer Protection laws, and was not culpable for violating Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Billing Act; and other laws their actions were violating. I had to get hard copies of the cleared Certified Check, submit them to AT&T, and yet they still blocked my obtaining a new 'landline' at my home in Florida, making me in direct violation of US Military Regulations! It took over a month to resolve; AT&T refused to apologize - even when their 'collections' and 'Customer Service' acknowledged all of their actions and that AT&T had made egregious mistakes! - and the Bush Administrations refused to allow them to be held accountable for their acts against me, and a high-risk pregnant Military spouse! Shame on AT&T and all Government Officials who shield private companies they favor for what appears to be financial preference: especially Bush / Clinton / Obama Administrations and AT&T!
