The story of Anjolee begins a half century ago, when a young man arrived in New York City from his homeland of Israel with a single suitcase in hand. He left behind a troubled youth and parents who hoped that working with a family friend, a jewelry manufacturer in New York's world renown Diamond District, would turn him around.
And it did. A jeweller's bench is where the young man found focus and purpose, an outlet for his creative talent. By day he worked in the factory, steadily gaining the skills of a master jeweler and learning to survive on his own. By night, he traded his time doing jewelry repairs for space in a shop to create his own designs. He sold what he made to local jewelry stores and when demand for his work grew, he left his day job to start his own business.
Within a year, the company was prospering. In the early 1980s, the founder and all 20 employees relocated to Los Angeles, a bold move that required the founder to work day and night once again to keep the company afloat.
It was his undiminished creative spirit that ultimately led the way forward. At the time, the tennis bracelet was just becoming popular. When the founder introduced his own design, wholesalers immediately flooded the struggling company with orders. And once the tennis bracelet was famously coined as such in a U.S. Open match, there was no turning back. Throughout the 1980s, the company flourished, not only on the strength of its reputation as the leading manufacturer of the tennis bracelet, but as well, on its fine quality earrings, necklaces and rings.
In the early 2000s, the founder relocated the company to San Diego and rebranded it as Anjolee, taking inspiration from "Lee", a beloved family matriarch, and "jolie", the French word for beauty. In 2007, Anjolee's ecommerce website was launched to allow customers direct access to prices below retail and customized jewelry designs.
With the launch of the Anjolee brand, the founder retired and a new generation of family management stepped forward. To this day, Anjolee remains entirely family-owned. Many of the jewelers have been with the company for decades, preserving and upholding the legacy established by its founder for expert craftsmanship of the finest quality diamonds.
