Great tub/terrible chiller
Very happy with the tub, not happy with the chiller.
Purchased the 1.5HP chiller and having multiple issues with it: the fan is very loud, the pump is loud with a high pitched whine, the unit runs near constantly and over chills the water, and the timer function is not reliable.
The chiller has a design flaw where the temperature sensor is close to the internal hot components. This means that when the chiller turns off, the water around the sensor very quickly (about two minutes) heats up causing the pump to turn back on. The pump runs for about two minutes (fine except for the horrible sound it produces) but then the chiller itself (and loud fan) turn back on, even though the water temperature it senses is now below the set point. The fan runs for about two minutes, then two more minutes of noisy pump, then it finally turns off. In two minutes the cycle starts over again.
Why the poorly implemented firmware turns the chiller on even though the water temperature is below the set point is beyond me. I can understand the sensor heating up, but not the firmware behavior.
The net result is that the chiller cools the water down to about 5F below your set point. That in itself is ok - either set the temperature 5 degrees higher or (as their customer service recommended) change an internal parameter to offset the temperature reading. What I don’t like is the continual cycling on and off of the unit. As I mentioned it’s very loud - the neighbors and myself are all able to hear it inside their house with doors and windows closed.
I’ve been using the timer function to mitigate this some. But it turns out it’s not reliable - every 2 or 3 days the unit either fails to turn off, or fails to turn on. We have had no power issues and I’ve verified that the time is set correctly, as are the timer settings. Using the timer function in the wifi based app doesn’t work at all - as near as I can tell it’s ignored.
Contacting customer service has been marginal - they recommended the internal offset and that’s been about it. Multiple times I’ve asked for the unit to be exchanged and have had no response. Asking for it to be returned has also fallen on deaf ears.
