International House of Pancakes is an American diner chain owned by DineEquity. The first branch opened in Los Angeles in 1958. Its founders are Lapin brothers, Al and Jerry. It wasn’t until 1973 that a marketing campaign introduced the IHOP acronym by which most people know the company today. IHOP originally served only breakfast meals but soon added lunch and dinner choices to their menus in the 1980s. By 1993, the average sales per location hit $1 million. Since opening 60 years ago, the company has grown to operating over 1,800 branches in America and all over the world, serving their famous all-day breakfast meals to families everywhere. Today, most IHOP branches are run by franchisees. In 2007, the IHOP corporation became DineEquity after having acquired Applebee’s, a bar and grill restaurant chain, for $2.1 billion. DineEquity is considered the leader in full-service restaurant companies worldwide.
