In the end I got there but only after inconsistent secondary document requirements
At first I gave ID.me 1 star because I was pulling my hair out over their secondary documentation requirements. As a US person living in the UK obtaining proof of address with my “full name” is very difficult. Banks, insurance, energy, telephone and internet companies don’t tend to list out middle names. Talking of which even HRMC and the IRS don’t list my full name. At best middle name initials are included but often not even that. A first name is also occasionally only an initial.
During documentation verification ID.me ask for secondary documents full name to match as per primary, eg. SSN or passport. However in reading their allowable secondary documents help sheet elsewhere; they state first and last name must match, no mention of middle names to be included.
After a few attempts and several hours I eventually passed thru all the hurdles.
It would really help if ID.me changed their instructions during the document verification process to not state the requirement for “full name” to match, but only first and last. This would then be consistent with the secondary documents instruction sheet. Afterall, ID.me already had my verified full name on primary documents. This would have saved me several hours of frustration.
Also, why don’t ID.me accept a UK driving license as a secondary document? Somehow an energy or cable bill is okay but my UK driving license isn’t evidence of my name and address?
Apart from this issue ID.me seems like a slick, very robust and professional process to protect unauthorized individuals accessing important accounts. Which I appreciate much.
