Tried to purchase a projector ($3000) on my international credit card. After being double checked by bank (security procedure), Crutchfield was not not able to fulfill the purchase, even though they already had the money confirmed.

Their security policy wants a proof of address in the States with a registered phone number. I'm not 50 years old and have phone line. Only a smartphone, it's the year 2016, not 1990. This being the only accepted proof, they cancelled the order, only promising to give my money back at some point.

this company totally wasted my time. i tried to order an expensive wireless speaker checking out by paypal which gave me an error message. i called them, talked to a very friendly and professional lady who accepted my order. she tried to repair their paypal connection having me on hold for a long time. then she asked me for a credit card which i provided. total time was more than half an hour because of the detailed information requested. minutes later i got an order confirmation with an order number by email.

nevertheless i believe that we do not live in 1950 any more and that modern companies should transact online which is faster and more efficient.

a few hours later i received a dubious email from this company requesting the same information again that i had given on the phone for at least 35 minutes. they even accused me of identity theft. i told them to keep the speaker to themselves and that i would never use this dubious organization again in my life. i hope that they will not steal my credit card information. this company is not to be trusted at all.

the next day i ordered the same product from bhphoto. i paid by paypal and i got the shipping/tracking information only hours later. bhphoto is outstanding. everything works and customer service is great.

i do not understand how crutchfield can still be in business because they are unable to compete against phphoto, adorama or amazon.
