Sten Kirkbak, owner and CEO of Xplora, founded Xplora after a harrowing experience when he and his four-year-old son went shopping at a shopping center in Oslo and, after a brief misunderstanding, his son disappeared. After an agonizing 30-minute struggle, the boy was luckily found unharmed, but it certainly left a lasting mark on Sten.
For a man with extensive experience in both the telecoms and technology sectors, these traces became the impetus for his further development. All in all, it was a nightmare that allowed him to manage the whole experience and sow the seeds of today's Xplora award-winning smartwatch for kids. For Sten Kirkbak, the watch was crucial in finding his son quickly in the shopping mall, and today it is recognized as an innovative product.
Xplora was founded with a mission to give kids safe access to their digital lives and a better balance between screen time and physical activity.
Vision:
Play to move the world
Xplora's vision is to enable children around the world to experience how their daily activities can make a positive difference in the world.
Our Xplora platform rewards activity and motivates kids to be more active, and Xplora users walk more than 1 billion steps per week. That's the equivalent of circling the globe once a day!
Now, this is the feature parents are most excited about.
Every day one of the kids' school friends knocks on the door and asks if they can go out and play, and some parents are terrified and always say no. Their reason is that adults won't be with their kids always to protect them and keep them safe and parents are uncomfortable with that. There are a lot of kids playing out front and it feels bad to stop their kids from going out due to some of the adult's anxieties until one day they say, okay. I check on the kids outside every two minutes to make sure the parents can see them and that they are safe.
The kids knew they weren't allowed to cross the road and knew their boundaries, but that still didn't stop the parents from going out to check on them. These parents felt relieved when their smartwatch arrived because one of the features was a tracker, so users were eager to see how it worked.
Please note that this feature will not work without a SIM card.
The watch only takes a few hours to fully charge and when fully charged it will last about a day and a half. According to tests, charging them for an hour in the morning before school, 23% of their charge lasted all day until around 5 pm. Try not to let the watches run out of juice before charging them, and don't let them charge overnight. I'd say the battery life is very good.
For every 1,000 steps you take, you'll be rewarded with 1 Xplora coin, which you can save until you have enough Xplora coins to buy something from the Goplay shop. The shop is restocked and opens every Friday at 4 pm, and you can buy scooters, trampolines, Instax cameras, clothing, and authentic items like puzzles, binoculars, footballs, and other small items.
When you first receive your new Xplora smartwatch, they will provide you with an Xplora coin code on the side of the box for you to use, so be sure to add them.
All in all, the Xplora Smartwatch we highly recommend it.
