Books-A-Million, Inc. was founded in Florence, Alabama in 1917 as a corner newsstand and has grown to become the premier book retail chain in the Southeastern United States and the second largest book retailer in the United States. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the company now operates more than 260 shops in 32 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to its primary retail operations, the company includes a book wholesaling and distribution subsidiary, American Wholesale Book Company, an e-commerce division called BOOKSAMILLION.COM, and NetCentral, an Internet development and services company based in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Company's e-commerce site, BOOKSAMILLION.COM, was successfully launched in 1998. Like our shops, the site is open, engaging and product-focused. Since the site's launch, we have continued to enhance its design, product offerings, editorial content, and customer service attributes and maintain our position as the value leader in book e-tailing. Through our U.S. Internet Services division, we continue to develop a suite of e-commerce solutions designed to meet the needs of a variety of business customers. The acquisition of NetCentral continues to provide us with the development experience and systems resources we need to continue to innovate and compete effectively in the e-commerce space.
